[Maine-birds] Catbird in Augusta

Hi,

I was in the yard on Eight Road in Augusta for the last 1.5 hrs. and a catbird showed up in the area where they nest each year.  Song activity was great!

Here are the highlights:
Gray catbird  1
Palm warbler  2
Pine warbler  2
Purple finch  1 First for the yard this spring.

This bird was singing mostly short sections of songs ranging from one or two notes (both abrupt and slurred), to one or two phrases, to an occasional full song.  The short notes and phrases included quite a repertoire of sounds including vireo-like patterns (both blue-headed and red-eyed).  Lots of fun to listen to but distracting as time wore on.

A bunch of juncos arrived today and were singing vigorously.

Good birding!
