Observation start time: 08:00:00
Observation end   time: 16:30:00
Total observation time: 8.5 hours

Official Counter:        Katrina Fenton

Observers:        Alan McKelvy, Barb Brenneman, Dave Gulick, Don Thompson,
Julie Krasne, Noah Gibb, Tom Downing, Zane Baker

Visitors:
The first warm weekend day of the season brought out the crowds like
wildflowers after a spring shower. There were many eyes to sift for tiny
winged treasures high in the expense. The hawkwatch had 57 visitors, though
many more people were out enjoying a picture-perfect day at the mountain.
A special thanks to my friends from NH who visited the hawkatch today, it
was great to see you all!

Weather:
Clear blue as far as the eye could see early on, then a few bands of white
followed by a handful of cotton balls moved in. The wind was light and
variable before blowing up from the west for a few hours in the second half
of the day. Temperatures climbed to the low 60s.

Raptor Observations:
High and distant was again the theme of the day as close-flying insects
appeared larger than birds. Late in the afternoon, a large mattress of a
cloud plopped itself over the summit to be streaked with one migrant after
another, a hint at what was passing unobserved through other parts of the
sky.

Non-raptor Observations:
Pine Warblers were singing from the trees while Hawkwatch Junco kept an eye
on the picnickers at the edge of his juniper patches. It was a light day
for passerine and waterfowl movement, but there were still a few birds
around.

Non-raptor Migrants:
Common Loon- 1  Canada Goose- 24  Common Merganser- 2  anas sp.- 5  duck
sp.- 5  waterbird sp.- 1  Killdeer- 1
Tree Swallow- 29  American Robin- 6  Pine Warbler- 3
Red-winged Blackbird- 5  Common Grackle- 4
Brown-headed Cowbird- 2  Purple Finch- 2

Predictions:
a tricky forecast for tomorrow with a warm from working through the area.
High temperatures could range anywhere from the upper 40s to the 60s
depending on how this system tracks. The wind will be out of the ESE at
10-15mph, though there's a chance it may shift and come in from the SSW,
bringing warmer temperatures and better conditions for migrants. There
could be some fog and scattered showers in the morning. If the wind shifts,
we could see a decent push of birds, but I think we may finally be in for a
slower day.
