Observation start time: 08:00:00
Observation end   time: 16:00:00
Total observation time: 8 hours

Official Counter:        Katrina Fenton

Observers:        Zane Baker

Visitors:
13.

Weather:
A thin coating of snow and a brisk north wind brought back memories of
March. By the afternoon, the snow had retreated to the shaddowy woods, and
temperatures had warmed to the mid-30s. Partly cloudy skies gradually
cleared, and the wind began to die down in the final hour of the count.

Raptor Observations:
The headwind proved to be daunting for migrants as most birds chose to drop
back towards the trees after testing the air. The local Northern Goshawk
showed itself benieth the summit for the first time in a few days. Turkey
Vultures sailed around in the afternoon as the wind dissipated, and we're
joined by an American Kestel that made up the total of the "late day falcon
flight."

Non-raptor Observations:
A Pine Warbler chose to ignore the wintery weather, trilling stalwartly
from the mountainside. Hawkwatch Junco muttered at the state of the
junipers in between songs.

Non-raptor migrants:
Canada Goose- 1   Common Merganser- 9   Mallard- 2
duck sp.- 2.     Great Blue Heron- 1.   Tree Swallow- 9

Predictions:
Tomorrow we should warm up well into the 40s after a shot at reaching
record low temperatures tonight. The wind will be out of the NE, but at
5-10mph, it should be less of a problem for migrants than today's wind.
Clouds are predicted to be scarce, but hopefully the birds won't be!
