Weather:
The count was delayed until 12:30 today due to rain that was still moving
through the area. Once the rain cleared, viewing conditions improved
rapidly, though we only saw one tiny patch of blue sky this afternoon. Wind
was light, out of the west then shifting to the south as it picked up
during the last hour.
Raptor Observations:
Raptor activity was mostly limited to the few migrants we did see today.
The biggest hour was between 3:00 and 4:00 with a mini push of Kestrels and
Merlins.
Non-raptor Observations:
Like the raptor migration, non-raptor movement was limited. The highlight
was 1 PURPLE MARTIN that came right overhead. Species deemed migrating were
43 American Robins, 6 Canada Geese, 5 Common Mergansers, 4 Mallards, 4
Great Blue Herons, and 1 European Starling. A total of 28 species were
observed from the summit today.
Predictions:
High pressure is building in tonight into tomorrow, creating some windy
conditions out of the NW. But, temperatures should reach the mid-50s. If
winds stay on the lower side of 10-20, there should be some birds moving.
