[Maine-birds] MDI FOYs

Yesterday, Robert Sharp and I were doing some spring cleaning…cleaning out bluebird boxes, that is. Downeast Audubon maintains a "bluebird trail” across portions of Hancock County; we monitor those in Bar Harbor, along Norway Drive and at the MDI High School. While working on the Norway Drive boxes, we had Tree Swallows overhead. In a particularly wet area, we flushed three Wilson’s Snipe. And as we were wrapping up, a Belted Kingfisher gave its rattling call in the distance. Moving to the Mount Desert Island High School, an American Bittern flew from the third, and only unfrozen, pond.
