RE: [Maine-birds] REMINDER to birders/photographers

As the author of the egret post earlier today, I feel some responsibility for the unfortunate "tree incident" at the school this morning (no, I wasn't the person in the tree.) I should have recognized the sensitive nature of the bird posting on a school day and the potential for mayhem that schools must assess these days to keep kids safe. Perhaps this is a worthwhile reminder for each of us as it relates to similar situations and visits on private property as well.

I just heard from one of the editors of a local paper: A photographer trying to get photos of the Cattle Egrets at the Rockland Middle School almost put the school in lockdown as police ran around school grounds today looking for "the guy in the tree trying to photograph kids."

Cattle Egrets are exciting to us, but much less so to angry parents and school administrators. PLEASE use common sense when you're birding/taking photos, especially around a sensitive area such as a school or a private home.
