[Maine-birds] Northern Maine Birds: Barrow's Goldeneyes, Bonaparte's Gull, Yellow-rumped Warbler at Caribou

A group of Aroostook birders visited the Wastewater Treatment Lagoons in Caribou this AM.  Despite some initial pea-soup fog, the sun quickly poked through and weather was perfect for the duration.  The walk was joint offering by the Caribou Recreation Dept and Aroostook Birders with support from the Cary Medical Center's Healthy You program.

Highlights were waterfowl with great, point-blank looks at Barrow's and Common Goldeneye, drake Wood Ducks, as well as Ring-necked Ducks and Green-winged Teal feeding on the river.  An attractive Bonaparte's Gull was preening next to a couple of resplendant Double-crested Cormorants.  Auditory enjoyments were provided by winnowing Wilson's Snipe, singing Ruby-crowned Kinglets and a drumming Ruffed Grouse.

A newly arrived Yellow-rumped Warbler gleaning in a brown ash tree top was one of our last birds of the AM.  A full list of the morning's birds can be seen here: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S18187144

Our next scheduled outing is Thursday May 8th at Mantle Lake Park in Presque Isle.  Then another Aroostook Birders/Caribou Rec birdwalk will be a Collins Pond, in Caribou on Friday the 9th.  Both walks start at 7 AM.

Good Birding
