[Maine-birds] Jeff Wells today on MPBN's "Maine Calling" re: birds

If you’re at your desk or near a radio at 1pm today, you might tune in to MPBN's "Maine Calling" where Jeff (Wells), along with Jan Pierson, will be sharing their knowledge of all things birds, and answering listener questions. I believe the segment reruns tonight at 8pm.

Meanwhile, American Redstarts, Black-and-whites, and Yellow Warblers have been passing through our yard in Gardiner. Carolina Wren is persisting, and several pairs of Osprey are frequently calling over our yard, which is just up the hill from Cobbossee Stream.

Jeff had a Northern Waterthrush singing from the tiny patch of greenery along the stream beside the bridge, between Dunkin’ Donuts and A1 Diner. An interesting, if fleeting, find.

It’s the height of the spring migration in Maine, and bird enthusiasts are excited about some rare sightings this spring – a male vermillion flycatcher in Bremen,  a fieldfare in Damariscotta, and a great gray owl on MDI.  Our birding experts will guide us to the best sights for birdwatching as well as help us identify what’s at our backyard feeder.

Guests: Jeff Wells, research associate of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and former bird conservation director for National Audubon   Jan Pierson, Owner and Founder of Field Guides Birding tours
