[Maine-birds] Harlequins at Cliff House, Coot at Phillips Pond, No Migrants at Nubble Thickets, York Co., 10/31

Hearing about the nice southern migrants at Monhegan, I thought I might hit the Nubble Thickets to see what migrants might be there too.  The last time I was there in late fall after strong southerly winds (10/4/11) I was lucky enough to add Hooded Warbler and White-eyed Vireo to my Maine list.  But no such luck this time.  After 90 minutes of spishing this morning I had exactly 1 migrant - a flyover Yellow-rump.  Notably, there was a bit less habitat and a few more houses than 6 years ago.

Next I was spent some time looking for Cave Swallows on the coast.  (There have been several on the CT coast this week.)  No luck.  But there was some good Cave Swallow habitat at the Cliff House - the balconies of the ocean facing rooms were warmed by the sun, sheltered from the wind, and had lots of small flies.

Consolation prize at the Cliff House were 2 male Harlequins in a large flock of Eiders and (mostly Black) Scoters beneath the northern most building.  And a Coot mixed in with the dabblers at Phillips Pond was a nice find.
