Paul and I are out on Monhegan for a few days and knowing bad weather is on the way later tomorrow, I tried to make the most of my time outside today. The birding highlight was definitely two YELLOW-THROATED WARBLERS flycatching in proximity on the breakwater. (There was a third warbler-type bird with them of similar size that flew off, so who knows, maybe there are three out here?) While I wasn't able to get a photo of the two birds together, I did manage to get shots of each bird; one bird clearly has darker, heavier side streaking than the other.
Also turned up an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER behind the Trailing Yew.
Other highlights:
No. Gannet - 1st year bird on the water on the way out here
Merlin - 1
Red-bellied Woodpecker - 1
Red-eyed Vireo - 1
Blue-headed Vireo - 1
House Wren - 1 near garden
Golden-crowned Kinglet - many
Nashville Warbler - 1 in garden
No. Parula - several
Yellow-rumps - several
Black-throated Green Warbler - 1
"Yellow" Palm Warbler - 3
C. Yellowthroat - 4-5
Indigo Bunting - 3 in with a small flock of Chipping Sparrows
Dickcissel - 1 in garden
Baltimore Oriole - 2-3 in the grape vines near Tribler
Who knows what the storm will bring?
