I checked Capisic Pond before work this morning and there were at least 18 Red-Winged Blackbirds, at least 7 Common Grackles, my FOY Belted Kingfisher, and a Swamp Sparrow. I found a Swamp Sparrow here on Jan 4 which makes me wonder if this is the same bird that may have overwintered.
After work, I shot over to see the Snow Goose in the Scarborough Marsh which was easily visible with Canada Geese across from Anjon's. My FOY Kildeer flew over while I was there and several flocks of blackbirds ranging from ~30 to ~ 100 per group flew in from all directions and landed in trees near Anjon's. There was a group of ~ 170 blackbirds dominated by Grackles perched in the industrial park north of the marsh on Rte 1. Total estimations were close to 300 RWBL's and just over 200 COGR's in the 20 minutes that I was in the area. I'm sure more flocks continued to arrive as I could see small flocks flying over while driving away and on the turnpike.
When I got home just before dusk after picking up my son, I opened a window in my kitchen facing the back yard in hopes of hearing a FOY Woodcock and sure enough, 20 minutes later, peenting began coming from the ground. New yardbird!
