[Maine-birds] This Week's Highlights and migrants, 3/9-15

Hi all,

Jeannette and I were away for most of the week, but a few sightings of note while we were in town included:
- 1 RAZORBILL, Winslow Park, Freeport, 3/9 (With Saturday Morning Birdwalk group).  This was our second alcid (following a Thick-billed Murre earlier in the year) at this well-inshore location this winter.  Amazing!
- 1 Turkey Vulture (first of year) and 1 female Lesser Scaup, Winslow Park, Freeport, 3/9 (with Saturday Morning Birdwalk group).
- Numerous Common Grackles (first of year), around local area on 3/14.
- 8 1st-year and 1 2nd-year Iceland Gull, Old Port, Portland, 3/15.
- first of spring Northern Goshawk and Red-shouldered hawks, Bradbury Mountain Hawkwatch, 3/15.

- at least 25 Common Redpolls continued in our Pownal yard through 3/9, but we have not seen any since our return.

Other migrants noted widely this week:
Canada Goose
Mallard
American Black Duck
Hooded Merganser
Common Merganser
Turkey Vulture
Bald Eagle
Red-tailed Hawk
American Crow
Red-winged Blackbird
American Tree Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco
