Birding Mount Desert Island this afternoon yielded some good birds.
The first was a Pacific Loon at Hadley Point. My initial impression was of a smallish, more delicate loon. When I got the scope on it, I could see a more rounded head, stark contrast between the dark neck/head/back and the white underparts, a clearly more diminutive bill, and, the clincher, a thin “chinstrap.”
Later, at Bass Harbor Marsh, two male American Wigeon and a Gadwall were nice MDI treats.
