[Maine-birds] Drake Pintail

Driving south on 295 about 11, saw what I think were a pair of pintails in the mitigation pond/marsh near the Richmond exit, on the west side of the highway. They were fairly close to the road. I am certain about the drake—unmistakable, even with my old eyes at 75 mph with no binoculars.  I think the bird with him was a pintail hen, but didn’t get a great look at her. Lots of other waterfowl on the pond too, but other than a couple of drake mallards I couldn’t tell what species.

I did not see many waterfowl in other spots I drove past on my way from Augusta to Portland and back.  It’s rare to see much in that Richmond spot for me, so I wonder what’s going on.  Didn’t see any ducks on Cobbossee Stream, the marsh in Yarmouth, the lower end of the Presumpscot, or Back Cove.  They must be liking something to eat that little marsh.
