[Maine-birds] Apparent Gray-tailed Tattler photographed on Matinicus Rock heading South

Just got some exciting photos from one of the Matinicus Rock interns asking for help with an ID. My first impression of the bird was a Tattler sp... Earl (the intern) mentioned it was flying by and heading south. Interestingly when I got him on the phone to tell him the exciting news he mentioned that it sounded like a golden plover without any prior knowledge of either Tattler call. Sibley mentions how the Gray-tailed Tattler call is similar to a slurred Pacific Golden Plover. After we got off the phone he listened to the call and was positive it sounded like a Gray-tailed! After looking at the photos the amount of white in the flanks combining with the call seem to indicate Gray-tailed.. He will post a detailed description and more photos in flight in his eBird report later today.

Get out an look!!

All the best,
