The past week has brought in more shorebirds to add to the 1,400+ birds we've been seeing since early August. Up to 2,500 shorebirds (mixture of Semipalmated Sandpipers and Plovers, Black-bellied Plovers, Short-billed Dowitchers, Lesser and Greater Yellowlegs, Least Sandpipers and, yes, 27-35 Whimbrel, are daily feeding on the mudflats during low tide in Flat Bay. Good numbers of Common Terns, Bonaparte's Gulls, Herring Gulls and Ring-billed Gulls as well as several Double-crested Cormorants and Ospreys add to the viewing pleasure!
I saw one Stilt Sandpiper in the Mill River mudflats (west side of the peninsula that ends in Oak Point) in Harrington this past Thursday.
