[Maine-birds] Re: GHOW brancher / fallen from nest

Hi Brooks, chances are that this owlet has already fledged, but it will mosly walk around and forage on the ground for a few days while its wings get stronger and it gets more accustomed to flying.  It may half-clamber, half-fly its way up to a higher spot to roost, but if it doesn't, I'd still leave it alone for a few days. The parents are keeping a watchful eye from above, and they will swoop down to feed it regularly and protect it from harm.  Obviously if your friend has a dog or an outside cat, they should avoid letting it out unleashed until the owlet leaves the yard.  Hope this helps. Sorry, I am not a texter - and hopefully others can benefit from this knowledge as well, since this is the time of year when we are most likely to find owlets foraging on the ground.

Hi - A friend in Cape Elizabeth has a GHOW owlet in her yard. In case this bird cannot claw its way back up the pine it fell from is there a good resource to call to assist with helping get the owlet back up into the tree?

Please text me at 617.407.2457 with any suggestions.

Appreciatively,

Brooks
