For the last two weeks, we have had the pleasure of hosting a Solitary Sandpiper on the large puddle immediately adjacent to our barn door (and manure pile). When they first appeared, they would leave whenever we came out to the barn - now, they rarely flush, or if they do, they simply flutter to the other end of the puddle. We always announce our comings and goings to Sol, who has become quite blasé about people walking within about 10'. It has been a real treat watching it become accustomed to us, and it's now here most of the day. I imagine it will be leaving soon to continue migrating, but hopefully it has been filling up on invertebrate goodness.
