Now that the flock is closer and the light is better it appears that it is roughly an equal split of Blackies and Surfies. They are still present at Barn Point, York Beach. We'll see if we can hear them tonight I hope.
Interestingly, we were in South Florida this past March and saw a few Black Scoters there on the gulf side. A pair hung out on the beach at Sanibel the three days we were there, and you could walk right up to them. The locals told us that several hundred had made their way all the way down there for a big part of the winter.
