I completely forgot to mention that the TERNS returned to MSI on Friday morning.
As usual, they arrived at about 06:00 ADT, several hundred strong.
A bit unusual, they immediately started landing, prospecting nest sites and courtship, instead of spending a day or two just over-flying the island.
Within the hour they had lifted to high elevation and from there they dispersed away from the island in their normal fashion.
That routine has been played out for three days with the time on the island increasing slightly each day and more courtship evident. Before long they should be staying on and around the island pretty much continuously.
Those successful in relocating former mates and reoccupying past nest sites may get off to an early start this year.
