[Maine-birds] Red-headed Woodpecker

Birdwatching Magazine had a front cover story on this bird , April '17 that is worth looking up.The author quotes," Red-headed Woodpeckers have declined almost 80 percent (in some areas). They are also pretty much gone from our New England states".
Seems we're a little more fortunate on the coast here. I've seen them, along with others, up in Warren and out on Monhegan Island .
Timber Point seems like it would be a good spot for them. It is a bit of a park like habitat in places, they leave the dead snags in place, and even the prescribed burning is a real plus for this species. We'll see how kind the future is!
