[Maine-birds] Apparent Ring-necked Duck x scaup sp. hybrid, Sabattus Pond, Sabattus, 4/11.

Hi all,
Jeannette and I observed and photographed what appears to be a drake RING-NECKED DUCK X SCAUP SP hybrid late this morning from Martin's Point Park. It was hanging out with a group of Ring-necked Ducks and Lesser Scaup.

I'll get some photos posted in the coming days, but it was very cool bird. Intermediate in shape and plumage, it was a rather unique-looking Aythya. The very pale gray sides contrasting marginally with brighter white at the side of the chest (where the RNDU's "spur" of what would be) and dark gray back were the most noticeable details.

There, and elsewhere around Sabattus, our waterbird tally included:
66 Lesser Scaup
56 RUDDY DUCKS
24 Ring-necked Ducks
10 Greater Scaup
10 Bufflehead
3 Mallards
3 Common Loons
2 Canada Geese
