[Maine-birds] Belfast Bay bird census of Sunday, April 10, 2016

Gary Gulezian and I did the census.  Weather was windy with a mostly north wind at 10-20 mph.  Otherwise, it was sunny with temperatures 25-30 F.  Some birds found in low numbers, such as American Black Duck (0 individuals found), Mallards (0 individuals found), and Common Loon (5 individuals found), may have begun moving to their nesting grounds, since inland lakes and ponds are now mostly ice free.  Double-crested Cormorants have returned with six birds found on the "monument" that helps mark the channel entering Belfast Harbor.  Two birds were actually sitting on last year's nests.  The adult Lesser Black-backed Gull is still here.

The entire report may be found on ebird at http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S28877308.
