Visitors:
Two people visited the hawkwatch.
Weather:
It was overcast this morning with fair visibility and rain showers along the horizon. There was a strong, mostly southerly wind. Drizzle began at around 10 am EST, becoming steady rain and ending the count at 10:30 am EST. Rain intensified and continued into the afternoon, along with a wind advisory during late afternoon.
Raptor Observations:
Two migrants were recorded, which is not bad considering the weather conditions. A very well-fed Cooper's Hawk (with a full crop) circled up over Cousins Island power plant and flew northwards over Bradbury Mountain. A close kestrel also zipped by. A good number of local Turkey Vultures were cruising around.
Non-raptor Observations:
16 bird species were observed. A Great Blue Heron flew low over Little Bradbury summit. "Hawkwatch Junco" and some ravens dropped by to visit.Birds deemed migrating:8 blackbird sp.
Predictions:
Some showers are possible in the morning, but should pass quickly with overcast skies predicted throughout the day. Winds are expected to be moderate and mainly south southwest. After the rain, there should be a good number of birds moving through. Note that the forecast for Saturday looks wonderful right now, so stay tuned. It could be a big day!
