Re: [Maine-birds] Jetport snowy owl

Dan, and everyone:

Regarding the human/owl interactions at airports: USDA APHIS (also working with BRI) has been trapping and relocating potential hazardous Snowy Owls from airports. A blog post from 15 Dec on the Project SNOWstorm stated that three owls have been relocated from the Portland International Jetport this winter.

That blog post, which includes an unfortunate end to the relocated owl "York" is available at: https://www.projectsnowstorm.org/posts/wrong-kind-news/

On a happier note, the owl "Wells" who spent last winter around Saco Bay has returned south and began transmitting a summer's worth of data including evidence of nesting! That post is available here: https://www.projectsnowstorm.org/posts/wells-excellent-summer-adventure/

And I wanted to encourage anyone who sees value in this work to consider supporting Project SNOWstorm at: https://www.generosity.com/fundraising/project-snowstorm-snowy-owl-research-2017-18

Happy holidays and good birding,

Hey All me again, decided to take a quick shot at finding a snowy owl at the Portland Jetport while finishing up Christmas shopping and was rewarded. If you go to the Mac Jets building parking lot, it is out along the runway next to a black marker numbered one.

Thanks,
