Hi all,
A rather slow week of birding for me produced the following highlights:
- Our Yellow-rumped Warbler flock at our feeders at our Pownal home peaked at 20 on 4/30, with up to that number present daily since. Up to 8 are visiting daily here at the store as well. We're receiving many more reports than usual of warblers at feeders, a sign that phenology is behind schedule this year (see link below).
- 1 pair NORTHERN SHOVELERS, 425+ White-winged Scoters, both scaup, etc, Wharton Point, Brunswick, 4/30.
- 1 Eastern Meadowlark, Freeport Transfer Station, 5/1.
- 1 Rusty Blackbird, Florida Lake Park, Freeport, 5/2.
And my personal FOYs this week were limited to:
- 1 ad. White-crowned Sparrows, feeders here at the store, 5/2.
- 1 Black-and-white Warbler, Morgan Meadow WMA, 5/3.
But my highlight of the week was this nest-building Brown Creeper that we found on our birdwalk at Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park as part of the 9th Annual Feathers Over Freeport on Sunday the 28th:
And finally, I posted a blog earlier today about this exceptional widespread "warblers at feeders" event that has been ongoing this spring.
