[Maine-birds] This Week's Highlights, 1/26-2/1.

Hi all,
 
Well, that was a roller-coaster week of weather, wasn't it?  Anyway, here are my highlights from the past seven days:
 
- 2 adult BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, Freeport Yacht Club, 1/26 (with Saturday Morning Birdwalk group). 
- 1 Belted Kingfisher and 10 Hooded Mergansers, Eastern Road Trail, Scarborough Marsh, 1/27 (with Kristen Lindquist and Chris Borg).
- 5 CANVASBACKS (3 drakes and 2 hens), Presumpscot River, Falmouth from I-295N on 1/27 (with Kristen Lindquist) and from Route 9 on 1/28.  Photo: https://www.facebook.com/Freeportwildbird?ref=hl#!/photo.php?fbid=565327160163909&set=a.561795817183710.139561.198877036808925&type=3&theater.  All five birds still present as of 2/1.  No other CANV were found in a check of the other previously-reported locations.
- 14 RUDDY TURNSTONES, 4 Brant, 1 imm. Peregrine Falcon, and 67 Red-necked Grebes, Ocean Avenue, Biddeford Pool, 1/28. 
- 2 drakes and 1 hen AMERICAN WIGEONS, Saco River behind the University of New England, Biddeford, 1/28.
- 6 AMERICAN PIPITS, Seapoint Beach, Kittery, 1/29 (with Jeannette).
- 85 Harlequin Ducks between The Nubble, York and Marginal Way, Ogunquit, 1/29 (with Jeannette).
- 1 leucistic hen Long-tailed Duck, The Nubble, 1/29 (with Jeannette).  Photo:
- 11 Lesser Scaup, Marginal Way, Ogunquit, 1/29 (with Jeannette). Odd location.
- 2 Evening Grosbeaks, our yard in Pownal, 2/1.
- 2 drake Lesser Scaup and one hen Greater Scaup, Eastern Promenade, Portland, 2/1.
 
- 1 pair Barrow's Goldeneye continue in the Lower Haraseekett River in Freeport, most often in view from the Town Wharf at the end of Pine Street.
- all three merganser species continue in Yarmouth Harbor and in the Cousin's River at The Muddy Rudder through week's end.
