[Maine-birds] This Week's Highlights and New Arrivals, 4/27-5/3.

Hi all,

 

My sightings of note from the past seven days - all, to the best of my knowledge were accurate identifications - included:

- 9 Evening Grosbeaks continued in our Pownal yard through 4/28 (photos), with a variable smaller number through week's end.

- 1  WHITE-FACED-type IBIS, behind Pelreco, Scarborough Marsh, 4/29.  Due to heat shimmer, photos were inconclusive, but this appears to be the bird that is either a third year (or so) or what some have proposed as a hybrid.  Photos, for what they are worth (little!) available upon request.

The impressive showing of BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS continues this week.  My observations were widespread:

- 1 Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park, Freeport, 4/28 (Feathers Over Freeport birdwalk). 

- 1 continuing, Capisic Pond Park, Portland, 4/29 (with Luke Seitz).

- 1 East Point, Biddeford Pool, 4/30.

- 1-2, Biddeford Pool neighborhood, 4/30.

 

And my personal FOY's this week were:

- Black-and-white Warbler: 1, Wolfe's Neck Woods S.P, 4/28 (Feathers Over Freeport birdwalk).

- Black-throated Green Warbler: 2, Wolfe's Neck Woods S.P., 4/29 (Feathers Over Freeport birdwalk).

- Northern Parula: 1, Capisic Pond Park, 4/29 (with Luke Seitz).

- House Wren: 1, Capisic Pond Park, 4/29 (with Luke Seitz).

- "Eastern" Willet: 2, Scarborough Marsh, 4/29.

- Yellow Warbler: 1, Fortunes Rocks Beach, Biddeford, 4/30.

- Laughing Gull: 1, East Point, Biddeford Pool, 4/30.

- Green Heron: 2, Elphis Pond, Biddeford Pool, 4/30.

- Black-bellied Plover: 8, The Pool, Biddeford Pool, 4/30.

- Brown Thrasher: 1, Hodson Road, Pownal, 4/30.

- Black-throated Blue Warbler: 1, Hedgehog Mountain Park, Freeport, 5/1 (after further review, ahem).

- Ovenbird: 2, Hedgehog Mountain Park, 5/1.

- Common Yellowthroat: 1, Morgan Meadow WMA, Raymond, 5/3.
