Comments: Ron Giles and his sons family for a photo shoot off of Petit Manan. Atlantic Puffin was the target species than we followed our instincts and reports over the last few days for the region. Fall migratory species are moving with an excellent example of that today as we transect the Gulf of Maine from Petit Manan to the bumps and wsw to Mount Desert Rock. This is the first in a series of locations going to Petit Manan across the Schoodic Ridge. Always good to be in the heart of Down East Maine.
6 species

Common Eider (Somateria mollissima) 85
Common Loon (Gavia immer) 1
Double-crested Cormorant (Phalacrocorax auritus) 35
Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) 1 off the dock at COA

Comments: 080 Ron Giles Petit Manan Island Aug 22 2012 . On our approach to Petit Manan Island we encountered 5 Bald Eagle, 1 Peregrine Falcon, a plethora of Laughing Gulls, eleven Atlantic Puffin and others. The Eagles surrounded the island causing large dreads or sudden take-off and flight of a flock of gulls or other birds. Atlantic Puffin were here in small numbers. Laughing Gull was the dominate species today. We shot Puffins all morning with excellent photographic conditions.
