[Maine-birds] Three-toed Woodpeckers

Mssrs Heath, Mooney and I birded the Baxter/Nesowdnehunk/Telos area yesterday, and were pleased to be joined by John Oshlick (CT) for the Nesowdnehunk section. We managed, with the patience and persistence of a Bob Duchesne, to find both three-toed Woodpeckers along with Spruce Grouse (with chicks), Boreal Chickadee and singing Fox Sparrows. 

We also found six flycatcher specie and a good assortment of warblers including Mourning, Tennessee and Bay-breasted and many others.  

Pete Dunne, in his "Essentials" book, refers to the American Three-toed as the "Shabby Three-toed" . He tags the Black-backed woodpecker as the "Sharp dressed Three-toed.  The links below to both specie demonstrate the difference
