[Maine-birds] Caspian Terns and raptors today

During the drive between Harrington and the Schoodic peninsula we saw many raptors (lots of Turkey Vultures, at least 4 Merlins, several fly-by accipiters).  At Prospect Harbor we observed a very spunky Merlin who was chasing 4 crows (and making bodily contact with them!), dive-bombing gulls on the roof of the old lobster plant and generally having a great time!  Early at Schoodic Point we enjoyed seeing several Northern Gannets close to shore, and Seth's 4 Caspian Terns were perched on the boulders close to the parking lot.  We noted 2 Laughing Gulls and 3 Surf Scoters there as well.

Back home in Harrington we had both morning and late afternoon migrant waves going through the spruce and birch by the water as well as the ubiquitous Merlins flying by out over the water. Shorebirds on Flat Bay are great diminished in number.
