[Maine-birds] Wild hummer & W-crowned sparrows

Hi all,

I walked along Piggery road next to Viles Arboretum in Augusta late this morning and had my first of the season white-crowned sparrows mixed in with swamp sparrows and song sparrows.  I also had a hummingbird flyby.

The birds were fairly quiet with the exceptions of brief flurries of call notes (not the best time of day).

There were over a hundred and fifty bumblebees working asters along the road.  Take a moment to view the asters close-up through your bins or scope.  New York aster and Aster simplex (mostly white with a few pale blue morphs) are in full bloom and very beautiful in the sun.

The more interesting species

Gray catbird        6-7
Song sparrows   6
Swamp sparrow 4
White-crown sparrow  2
Unidentified sparrows  10+
