Yesterday 8/21/19 there were two early Purple Sandpipers seen on Long Porcupine I. in Frenchman Bay. At 2 p.m. as we approached Egg Rock in Frenchman Bay a large dark bird was seen leaving the island and flying directly out to sea. It was smooth dark brown above, no white showing above, and a white/light breast. A very brief view but the overall appearance and subtle flight pattern made it stand out as different than the immature Gannets that we see regularly.
