[Maine-birds] Re: 120 Nighthawks in Norridgewock

Last night the nighthawks were also moving.  Here in Unity I estimated a flock of 40 but there could have been a far greater number since they lingered over the area for over a half hour while travelling all directions.  There were 30+ in view at once.

Nice sight!

Good birding.

David Ladd just called to say he saw a flock of 100+ Common Nighthawks over a field in Norridgewock, field of dreams I guess.

He saw another group of 15 - 20 just a mile away.  Those are bigger numbers than I've seen or heard reported in recent years.

I hope birders who see 10 or more nighthawks will report them - it appears to be a species in real decline.

Heartening to get David's report - sorry not to be with him.

Best, Peter
