[Maine-birds] This Week's Highlights, 2/9-15.

Hi all,
 
My observations of note in the past seven days included:
- 82 Harlequin Ducks between The Nubble and Marginal Way, Ogunquit, 2/10.
- 1 Carolina Wren, The Cliff House, 2/10.
- 1 first-winter male Greater Scaup, Marginal Way, Ogunquit, 2/10.
- 85 Sanderlings and 1 Belted Kingfisher, Ogunquit Beach, 2/10.
- 1 female BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD, continuing at a feeder on Rte 1 in Wells, 2/10 (present since early Dec).
- 1 Evening Grosbeak, our yard in Pownal, 2/12.
- 4 Snow Buntings and 1 probable female (too far to confirm) KING EIDER, Reid State Park, Georgetown, 2/12 (with Jeannette).
- 1 first-winter Glaucous Gull and 1 first-winter Iceland Gull, Bath landfill, 2/12 (with Jeannette).
- 6 CANVASBACKS (4 drakes and 2 hens) continue in the Presumpscot River, as viewed from Rte 9, Falmouth, 2/14.  Photos here:

- 13 Iceland Gulls (10 1st winter, 1 2nd winter, 2 adults), Old Port, Portland, 2/14.
- 1 first-winter male NORTHERN SHOVELER continues, Westbrook Riverwalk, 2/14.  Photo at link above.

- 47 Dunlin, Winslow Park, South Freeport, 2/15. 
 
- All three mergansers species are back in the Royal River at Yarmouth Harbor. 
- Common Redpolls have finally descended on our Pownal yard en masse, with a season high count of about 75 on 2/12 and 2/15.
