Got a little bit of birding done in between running errands today. Checked out Marginal Way, and was surprised to see so few Eiders (just 20 or so), but 4 Greater Scaup, 2 hens and 2 drakes, was nice.
-- Off Beach St in Ogunquit was a large flock of Mallards, totally 556 birds, include several dozen feeding on the beach, something I've never seen Mallards doing before.
At the end of Atlantic Avenue in Wells, I had a large flock of 70+ Purple Sandpipers, along with 6 Dunlin and 50 or so Sanderlings (and another 130 Sanderlings seen a little bit further south) on the end of the Jetty. I got so close to a few of the Purple Sandpipers that I could actually see the purple back feathers that give them their name.
Good Birding
