[Maine-birds] Auburn Great Cormorant etc

Hello All,

A breeding plumage Great Cormorant showing a striking amount of white on the nape was perched on a wire crossing the Androscoggin River slightly upriver from the former Delekto Brothers on River Road, Route 136.  I believe that this is the third year in a row I have had Great Cormorant in Androscoggin County.  Two years ago I saw one perched in exactly the same location about two weeks earlier than this date.

A pair of Common Goldeneye and a pair of Bufflehead were below it, just above the rapids.

Elsewhere 7 Wood Duck (FOY) three Hooded Mergs, two Common Mergs, Beaver, Mink and three deer were observed during a river survey at the Durham Boat Launch.

Common Goldeneye were also seen on the Androscoggin River from North River Road and in the Nezinscot River in Turner just upstream from town.  Hooded Mergansers, Blacks and Mallards were also at that location.

Canada Geese widespread, approximately 100 at the Agricultural fields on the River Road just north of downtown Durham.  Blacks and Mallards as well.  Good place to check frequently.

Happy Birding,

Dan Nickerson
Freeport
