[Maine-birds] Common Teal present on the Abby, Bald Eagles galore, Rusty Blackbird in Pittston

I stopped by the Abby at 4 this afternoon and the water levels were excellent - flats exposed but no deep ditches where ducks often linger.

Still it was pretty slow:

a few hundred Black Ducks, Mallards, only 1 N. Pintail, 4 Wood Ducks, and 1 Common Teal among the Green-wings.

The most impressive feature of Merrymeeting Bay for me this spring has been the number of Bald Eagles.  I often see 10 -12 at a stop, sometimes 6 in my bins at once - multiples of teenagers hanging out in a tree together.  The ducks may be fewer in number, but the eagles aren't, which may partially explain the former.

Anyway, it's worth checking Merrymeeting Bay at this time of year - and there are lots of ducks at Green Point WMA, Dresden.

Single male Rusty Blackbird on the Everson Road among 30+ migrant robins, sans nigridreus (the Newfy form).

Best, Peter
