A couple of people have asked, so here is what has worked for me.

Check for high tide (which is a good 2 hours later than on the coast).  Look at tides for the Cathance River at

 http://www.saltwatertides.com/dynamic.dir/maineallsites.html

Then I usually plan on starting 3 to 2 hours before high tide, or 1 to 2 hours after high tide.
