Visitors:
48. Lots of eyes at the hawkwatch today as familiar faces from last year
and new friends from this season came out to enjoy the warmer temperatures
and migrants. Thanks for coming up!
Weather:
The morning started off nearly overcast with only a few breaks of sun, but
the cloud cover broke apart, leaving the rest of the day with mostly sunny
to partly cloudy conditions. Much of the remaining snow cover at the summit
melted away in the low 40 degree temperatures. The northwest wind became a
bit gusty at times, blowing at 10-15mph, but decreasing a bit in the
afternoon.
Raptor Observations:
A fair amount of birds were moving despite the wind. Our 200th migrant of
the season came through shortly before noon- an immature Bald Eagle
venturing away from the seacoast.
Non-raptor Observations:
A solo Pine Grosbeak crossed in front of the mountain this morning, its
southwest trajectory suggesting it hadn't yet made plans to leave town.
Non-raptor migrants:
Common Merganzer- 1
Great Blue Heron- 1
Predictions:
Less than ideal conditions for migrants tomorrow with a 10-15mph northeast
headwind and a storm passing just to our south. Overcast skies may
occasionally show a brief glimps of blue, and any rain or snow chances
should hold off until the evening. Temperatures will be in the upper 30s to
near 40 degrees.
