Comments: No dog today on a raw morning in Maine. The temperature rovers near 40F with a raw northwesterly wind blowing. Mid morning the winds changed to easterly and the sun came shining through. One thing I know is that the southern Maine contingency has many birds building up and waiting to release. Today was pretty quiet, especially on the ridges where there were a few players like YRWB and PUFI and a wonderful Brown Creeper which is a warbler wannabe.. The melody is heard from long distances and I have been lucky to have them right at a recorder a several years back. I believe that the recorder I was using had a high pitch which the Brown Creeper detected and he came right next to me about 3 feet away. (I digress). Beautiful day and amazing time to be in the forest.

Comments: Making my way to SW Harbor I made this one stop to see if any hummers were here yet. It is still quiet leading up to the big movements of the near future. Southern Maine is seeing the beginning but we will always lag somewhat here on MDI.
9 species
Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) 1
American Crow (Corvus brachyrhynchos) 2
Common Raven (Corvus corax) 1 female based on size and an amazing mobbing scene as the American Crow really dive bombs the Raven hard and multiple times.

Yellow-rumped Warbler (Setophaga coronata) 2
Chipping Sparrow (Spizella passerina) 1

Comments: Passing out Acadia Birding Festival posters and brochures in a community that is ready for spring. Everyone put the ABF logo in their windows in anticipation of economic development! An Eastern Phoebe is the bird on Main Street making all the "phoebe" incessant and monotonous calls!! "phoebe" I get it!

Comments: Graham turns 14 on Sunday so we hiked Champlain Mt and found a few birds along the way. South east wind Maple trees red-budded, Ellsworth shiest boulder brought by the Wisconsian Glacier, beautiful views of Gouldsboro Hills. Great examples of "Glacial Chattering" especially on the exposed bold rack face almost at the top. In 1993 I started the " Champlain Mountain Running Club" a bunch of crazy runners would meet before work at the Jackson Laboratory and run the Bear Brook Trail 3 days a week. I remember Yellow-rumped Warblers along the trail and the sound of Northern Junco's chipping away as we worked our way to the top. One of the best views of Frenchmen Bay. The Gull population on Thrumcap and Egg Rock are numerous
