I live in a field, so it was pretty surprising to look out just now and see two kingfishers sitting on the wire in front of our house. Maybe they stopped to ask for directions? First time they've landed here; maybe the second sighting for our yard.
(We do have wetlands in the surrounding woods and we are not far from Messalonskee Lake--1.5 miles--or the Kennebec-3 miles.)
