In twelve years of living in our house in a small subdivision of Glenburn (just north of Bangor) I had never seen a Common Nighthawk or a Black-billed Cuckoo in the neighborhood. Last evening as my wife and I were on our deck commenting on all of the strange insects we were seeing we looked up and saw two nighthawks hunting high overhead. The distinctive white bars on the underwings and their hunting style made them easy to ID even from a distance. This morning we heard the unmistakable call of the Black-billed Cuckoo. I grabbed my camera and snapped some shots of a single cuckoo feasting on caterpillars in my front trees. Quite a treat to see in the yard. --
