Hi all,
Here are some highlights for me from the past seven days:
- 1 juvenile Peregrine Falcon, Wharton Point, Brunswick, 8/4 (with Saturday Morning Birdwalk group).
- 1 juvenile Peregrine Falcon continues, Eastern Road Trail, Scarborough Marsh, 8/5.
- 1 SOUTH POLAR SKUA (juv/1st year), 2.5 to 2.7 miles southeast of Monhegan Island (within island's lobster territory), 8/6 with Laura Kennedy.
- Monhegan Island, 8/6-8/7. (with Laura Kennedy):
1 ROCK PIGEON (unbanded) - actually a very "good" bird out here!
14++ Red Crossbills (one flock of that number each day. Were scattered 1's and 2's part of this group. If not, there were A LOT of RECR on the island).
5+ singing Carolina Wrens
1 Killdeer - actually an "Island Bird" for me, vocalizing as it flew overhead after sunset on 8/6.
6 Great Cormorants, 8/7.
1 Olive-sided Flycatcher, 8/7.
1 WHITE-EYED VIREO, 8/7.
- 1 Carolina Wren, Shoreline Road, Falmouth, 8/9.
- 1 Red-necked Grebe, Ocean Avenue, Biddeford Pool, 8/10 (with clients).
And my shorebird high counts this week were as follows:
Black-bellied Plover: 15, Pine Point, Scarborough 8/5.
Semipalmated Plover: 183, Pine Point, 8/5.
Piping Plover: 3 including 2 juveniles, Pine Point Beach, Scarborough, 8/5.
Killdeer: 4, Highland Road, Brunswick, 8/4 (with Saturday Morning Birdwalk Group).
AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER: 5 including 1 juvenile (year high count), Pine Point, 8/5. Two at Hill's Beach, Biddeford, 8/10 (with clients).
Greater Yellowlegs: 18, Back Cove, Portland, 8/9.
Lesser Yellowlegs: 33, Eastern Road Trail, 8/5.
Solitary Sandpiper: 1, Monhegan Island, 8/7.
"Eastern" Willet: 9, Pine Point, 8/5.

Ruddy Turnstone: 17, Ocean Avenue, 8/10 (with clients).
Sanderling: 1, Biddeford Pool Beach, Biddeford, 8/10 (with clients).
Semipalmated Sandpiper: 330, Pine Point, 8/5.
Least Sandpiper: 45+, Eastern Road Trail, 8/5 (many juveniles)
White-rumped Sandpiper: 4, Eastern Road Trail, 8/5.
STILT SANDPIPER: 3 adults, Eastern Road Trail, 8/5.
Short-billed Dowitcher: 35, Hill's Beach, 8/10 (with clients).
