[Maine-birds] X-mas day dump GOEA and SNBU at Popham

Hi All,

Just getting to posting now, but on Christmas day we had no snowy owls on a quick Fort Popham loop (though search effort was very limited).  We did see a flock of 30+ snow buntings across the road from the main gate to Popham Beach.  We swung by the Bath dump in the afternoon and the GOEA was sitting in plain sight on the trash mountain visible from the gate.  Watched for about 10 minutes until it flew away to the north.  At least 8 other bald eagles around, one young baldy was very ragged, missing many feathers (tail, body, and head) and was being beaten up by the other birds.  Tough life being a dump eagle.

Hope everyone had a peaceful holiday, here's to a birdy 2014!
