My neighbor told me to compare it to a Woodcock. I listened but what I heard was shriller and I'm familiar with Woodcocks. Plus I was able to play a recorded Nighthawk then go back out and listen and they were the same peent call.

Definitely hearing a Nighthawk outside my house right now (at dusk).I have a Great Pyrenees that guards my chickens and he does not like the sound and barked at it.
