All that snow did finally melt, and now we have vernal lakes on the farms in western Maine, and the ducks love it. On McNeil Road in Fryeburg Harbor today we had ~140 green winged teal, and 40+ black ducks and ring-necked ducks. Also on the lakes were mallards, canada geese and greater yellowlegs. On the Saco were wood ducks and hooded mergansers, and on the real lakes the loons have returned, delighting us with their wilderness calls.
