Hi all,
I led a new "Washington County in August" tour from Thursday through Sunday. Although plagued by a paucity of seabirds and very low numbers of shorebirds, we had a great tour with a total of 107 species, including some real treats.
Highlights:
8/29:
- 10,000 Bonaparte's Gulls (BOGU), 500 Black-legged Kittiwakes, 1 Atlantic Puffin, 3 Razorbills, 1 Great Shearwater, 21 Great Cormorants, and 4 Fin Whales, boat from Eastport through Head Harbor Passage, New Brunswick.
- 5 Black and 6 Surf Scoters, off Sipayik ball fields.
- 1 juv BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER and 1 molting adult HUDSONIAN GODWIT, Lubec flats.
8/30:
- 2 Boreal Chickadees (BOCH), 1 Cape May Warbler, etc, Quoddy State Park.
- 1 continuing BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, Lubec flats.
- 3-5 PARASITIC JAEGERS, 2 Razorbills, 125 Black-legged Kittiwakes, Quoddy State Park.
8/31:
- 7 Boreal Chickadees, Boot Cove Preserve.
- 2 White-rumped Sandpipers (surprisingly our only of the trip), Addison Marsh.
