Re: [Maine-birds] Hawk watch today on the old, capped, Portland Landfill (Quarry Run Dog Park)

Nice Dave!

Was a full-on hawk migration today, for sure. I had a kettle of at least 50 BWs over Buxton around 0900, saw another flight of 10 or more and saw numerous individual kestrels, merlins and peregrines streaming south until around 1200.

I was up top with Zane Baker from 11-2 PM today.  Zane has the record of our sightings during that time period.  Together we saw around 150 migrants plus local Redtails and numerous eagles.

I remained after Zane departed from 2-2:50 and later from 4:15-5:30.
My list alone includes the following:
386 Broadwings (largest kettles were 14, 15, 45, 60, and 208
13 Kestrels
3 Merlins
2 Peregrines (a pair of grins)
7 Ospreys
13 Sharpshins
1 Harrier
Many sightings of eagles - mostly local birds
3 Redtails
1 Hummingbird
4 Nighthawks
2 Great Blue Herons

A beautiful day and a great day for hawks.
