Re: [Maine-birds] Re: Western Kingbird- Laudholm Farm, Wells

While western kingbird is not a mega rarity, I imagine many would like to chase this one.

nota bene:

This weekend is a major fundraising event at the Wells Reserve (Laudholm Farm). The main gate opens late (~9:30) and traffic is usually very heavy. Every visitor is asked for festival admission, which is $5 for members and $10 for others. The reported kingbird site is used for volunteer and vendor parking beginning long before the public gate opens.

I would advise not trying to beat the rush or parking on roadsides to "sneak in early" on Saturday morning. It really is hectic. Police give the area extra attention.

If you insist on an early attempt and don't mind walking, there's a small public parking area behind 100 Laudholm Farm Road. From there, follow the road or take the scenic route (Yankee Woodlot Trail…).

If you don't mind waiting a bit and are willing to pay the elevated entrance fee, come to the 31st annual Laudholm Nature Crafts Festival. Help pay the bills for the place, support its work, and — bonus — maybe get a lifer / state bird / year bird.

Or wait until 4pm, pay the standard admission ($0 / $5) and take your chances the kingbird is still around.

Thanks for understanding.
